Pressing

What is Comic Book Pressing?

The second step in the comic book rejuvenation process, pressing is the process of applying humidification, heat and pressure to correct minor imperfections in a book. This stage is then followed by House of the Scarab's proprietary cold pressing process, which helps to rebuild the "fibre memory" of the paper and aids in preventing it from reverting back to its pre-pressing form. The non-colour-breaking defects listed below can often be improved by pressing.

  • Dents

  • Bends

  • light folds

  • light creases

  • writing impressions

  • ripples

  • minor spine stresses

It is important to be aware that colour-breaking damage cannot be corrected through pressing. As with dry cleaning, brittle or heavily damaged books are not good candidates for pressing.
